Hi, I'm Rebecca.
Movement Teacher

Cybele Gym, Ashburton Devon

I’m Rebecca Anne Ellis, please call me Beckie or Bex. I’m passionate about helping people to move better, no matter where they are or what stage in life. To me, exercise is less about chasing fitness goals or perfecting body image and more about supporting health and longevity for the long run.

I’ve been teaching for over for 20 years now – everything from baby swimming to yoga, breakdancing to tai chi. These days, I mix all the best bits of everything I’ve learned (plus some personal favourites like strength training, functional mobility, and mindfulness) to create a movement experience that’s both fun and effective.

My Story

In addition to being a movement teacher, I’m also an acupuncturist, Bowen therapist, and manual therapist, with 18 years of hands-on experience. I’ve worked internationally, but since COVID, settled back in my hometown of Devon. Now, I run a busy clinic and studio in Chagford, Dartmoor.

When I’m not teaching or treating, you’ll probably find me outdoors – whether that’s walking with my dogs, being in the ocean, foraging, growing my own food or just soaking in the changing seasons. I’m also a huge fan of travel and adventure with my partner. I feel very lucky to do what I love and that my work is an extension of who I am.

What I Do

I love working with people who are genuinely curious about how their bodies move. My approach is laid-back, flexible with a playful curiosity– I believe in letting people explore at their own pace rather than following a rigid formula. With my therapy background, I tend to attract people who are working through injuries, health issues or who just want to move more mindfully.

Many of the people I work with are looking for guidance tailored to them. They may have lost confidence in how they move, or want to explore something different from what they’ve tried before. Sometimes traditional training environments haven’t quite worked, and a more personalised approach helps them get moving again.

My background as a therapist, teacher and outdoor educator shapes how I work. I focus less on “fixing” and more on helping you understand what’s happening in your body, so you can start to trust it and notice what it’s telling you. Over time, this has become much more about teaching people to read themselves, rather than relying on someone else.

My Services

I offer 1–2‑1 sessions and small private groups for people who want to feel more at home in their bodies.

Sessions are small and personal, giving space to explore movement in a way that works for you. We draw on traditional training methods, but also experiment with floor work, softer acrobatics, movement patterns and puzzles and deconstruct everyday movements to rebuild them in ways that suit your body and goals.

I value curiosity and connection, helping you find ways of moving that feel relevant to your life, not just in the gym, but in everything you do.

Every body is different. There are no quick fixes. This a slower, thoughtful process, about cultivating something that lasts, helping you to feel stronger, more capable and more connected over time.
