Hi, I'm Carly
Personal Trainer, SGPT Coach, Kettlebell & Pilates Instructor

Cybele Gym, Ashburton Devon

I have been a Level 2 Fitness Instructor & Level 3 Personal Trainer since 2018, and more recently I qualified as a swimming teacher and pilates instructor.

I believe health and fitness doesn’t have to fit neatly into a specific style or category of a traditional sport, club or class, but that it needs to be right for you and your body. This will be different for everyone and different for the same individual at different stages in their life.

Yes you need consistency to see a change and make improvements whatever your goal, but that doesn’t have to be from applying one specific sport / fitness discipline. A combination of styles and challenges can be used to get results. And these results should make you feel confident in your strength and ability to move well in everyday life and enjoy the activities you chose to do whatever your age.

One of my favourite quotes is: “You don’t have to be fit to enjoy life, but life is easier fitter”

My Story

Health and fitness have meant very different things to me over the years. From starting as a youngster with gymnastics, then moving to athletics, then tennis and badminton. I dabbled in a bit of running and rock climbing, then started cycling, swimming and kayaking. And alongside these I’ve also enjoyed regular weight training, Yoga and Pilates.

As you can tell, I’ve never been interested in any one particular sport, fitness craze or type of training. I’ve always just enjoyed variety, movement and the journey of learning and trying new things! As a result of this ‘non-specialist’ fitness journey, I’ve been able to build and maintain a good level of usable (functional) fitness - both cardiovascular and strength - that allows me to enjoy my passion of being active outdoors, exploring beautiful Devon and meeting lovely people along the way.

Now in my mid 40s, I continue my outdoor adventures and tailor my indoor training to focus more on addressing muscle imbalances, the retention of muscle and strength, and bone health. This is to give me the best possible chance of being able to continue my outdoor adventures for as long as possible, but also prepare and support myself and others through the perimenopause and menopause.

What I Do

If you’re looking for someone to help support both your short and long-term goals (of being physically fit to enjoy both your life now - whether that be pursuing the activities you love, being fit and well enough to enjoy being active with your children or grandchildren, or wanting to maintain your independence for as long as possible in the future) let me know, I’d love to be part of your fitness and movement journey!

Having always focused on how training can support the life and lifestyle that someone wants to lead, I’m experienced at building and tailoring programmes that are effective, progressive and fun. After all you’re not going to keep doing something you don’t enjoy and consistency is always key.

It’s often difficult to know where to start or what type of training to do, I can help you with this. Whether that be on a 1-2-1 or 2-1 personal training basis, or in small group personal training sessions. Give me a call, or send me an email and we can discuss your goals and decide on the best next steps together.
